How the Card Works | Communication Strength Comparisons

The CDplus ConnectCard is a dual-layered, wallet-sized card that combines the powerful communication utility of a CD/DVD with the functionality and versatility of a multi-application plastic card.  The bottom layer multimedia card disk, the CDplus, is approximately the size of a standard CR-80 card that connects directly to the back of the top layer plastic card, a payment card for example, delivering added value, promotion and education to debit, credit, prepaid and closed-loop payment cardholders.  The CDplus makes the payment card, well, “smart.”

The content of the CDplus can include, among other items:

  • Loyalty programs
  • Discounts
  • Free music and videos
  • Product information
  • Targeted education and training
  • Sweepstakes
  • Information capture

Once the card layers are separated, the payment card can be used in any swipe, dip, mechanized, smart card or RFID card reader.  The CDplus can be played in most CD/DVD tray-loading multimedia readers or players.  While connected the payment card protects the data contained on the multimedia card from being inadvertently scratched during transportation.  There is no need for a special CD/DVD sleeve or carrier.

The Card was developed by R & R Card Systems, Inc. (“R&R”).  The Card was granted a patent under the name Interactive Multimedia Smart Affinity Card by the US Patent Office in May of 2007.  R&R has partnered with several worldwide leaders in payment card manufacturing and processing technology including Giesecke & Devrient and Datacard to deliver a premier product.
